Pro Spot has released a Weld-On Ground Clamp, part number SA-0157. This new clamp replaces the previous grip-style ground clamp and magnetic ground.
The new Weld-On Ground Clamp is designed to make attaching your ground faster, easier, and closer to the repair area.

Why This Matters
With the previous style ground clamp, a technician repairing a dent in the middle of a door may have needed to grind metal and clamp the ground to the door edge. This could create two separate repair areas that may require painting or blending.
The new SA-0157 Weld-On Ground Clamp allows the ground to be welded closer to the dent or repair area. This helps keep the repair area as small as possible and may reduce the need to paint or blend additional panels.
Compatible Products
The Weld-On Ground Clamp SA-0157 is compatible with the following equipment:
- PR-3
- PR-2
- Spot welders using the single-sided function:
- i5
- i4s
- i4
- PR-2000
- PHS-101
Important Setup Notes
Weld settings will depend on the material thickness and the welder being used.
The goal is to leave the smallest heat footprint possible to help protect the corrosion protection on the backside of the panel.
For Spot Welders
Set the material thickness on the welder.
For PR-2 or PR-3
Set the appropriate:
- Weld time
- Weld power
How to Use the Weld-On Ground Clamp
- Loosen the threaded knob surrounding the stud.
This will expose the tip that will be welded to the panel. - Place the tip of the stud on a clean metal surface in the desired ground location.
- Position the ground as close as possible to the repair area.
The new style clamp allows the ground to be placed closer to the weld area instead of requiring the ground to be attached to an adjacent panel. - Touch the electrode from the weld gun to another clean metal surface on the same panel, or near the ground location, without touching the ground clamp itself.
- Initiate the weld:
- For a manual gun, press the trigger.
- For an auto gun, touch the surface until the weld occurs automatically.
- Once the ground tip is welded to the panel, tighten the threaded knob down snug to the surface.
This adds rigidity and secures the ground to the panel. - The unit is now ready to weld.
Location Matters
Always weld the ground as close as possible to the repair area.
If the technician experiences inconsistent weld results, the ground may be too far away from the repair area. Moving the ground closer may help improve weld consistency.
